This Risk & Safety Disclaimer outlines the inherent risks associated with Himalayan travel and pilgrimage. By participating in any tour, trek, or service provided by Meru Himal, travellers acknowledge and accept these risks.

1. Nature of Himalayan Travel

Travel in the Himalayan region, including Char Dham Yatra, trekking routes, and helicopter-assisted services, involves unique natural and environmental conditions, including:

  • High altitudes

  • Steep terrain

  • Rapidly changing weather

  • Limited medical infrastructure in remote areas

These conditions are beyond the control of Meru Himal.

2. Health & Medical Risks

Himalayan travel may expose travellers to:

  • Altitude-related illness (including Acute Mountain Sickness)

  • Physical exertion and fatigue

  • Cold temperatures and reduced oxygen levels

Travellers are responsible for:

  • Assessing their own physical and medical fitness

  • Disclosing pre-existing medical conditions

  • Consulting a medical professional prior to travel, especially senior citizens and those with chronic conditions

Meru Himal shall not be liable for medical complications arising from undisclosed conditions or non-compliance with medical advice.

3. Weather & Environmental Conditions

Weather conditions in the Himalayas are unpredictable and may include:

  • Heavy rainfall or snowfall

  • Fog and low visibility

  • Landslides or road blockages

Such conditions may result in:

  • Delays or cancellations

  • Route changes

  • Temporary suspension of services

No guarantees can be made regarding uninterrupted travel.

4. Road & Transport Safety

Mountain roads may be narrow, uneven, or affected by weather conditions. Travellers acknowledge that:

  • Travel may involve long hours on hilly roads

  • Road conditions can change without notice

  • Temporary disruptions are common during the pilgrimage season

Meru Himal works with experienced local drivers but cannot eliminate all travel risks.

5. Trekking & Outdoor Activity Risks

Trekking activities involve inherent risks, including:

  • Slips, falls, or injuries

  • Physical exhaustion

  • Limited rescue access in remote areas

Travellers must:

  • Follow guide instructions at all times

  • Use appropriate footwear and equipment

  • Inform guides immediately of discomfort or illness

Participation in treks is at the traveller’s own discretion and risk.

6. Helicopter & Aviation Safety

Helicopter services are:

  • Operated by DGCA-approved third-party operators

  • Subject to strict safety and weather regulations

Flights may be:

  • Delayed

  • Rescheduled

  • Cancelled without prior notice

Meru Himal does not control flight operations and cannot guarantee flight completion.

7. Emergency & Rescue Limitations

In remote Himalayan regions:

  • Medical and emergency response facilities may be limited

  • Evacuation may take time and be weather-dependent

  • Immediate access to advanced medical care may not be possible

Travellers are advised to carry personal medications and emergency contact details.

8. Traveller Conduct & Responsibility

Travellers are expected to:

  • Follow safety instructions

  • Respect local customs and religious practices

  • Avoid risky behaviour

  • Act responsibly toward the environment

Failure to comply may result in removal from the tour without refund.

9. Force Majeure & Unforeseen Events

Meru Himal shall not be held responsible for disruptions caused by:

  • Natural disasters

  • Government orders

  • Political or administrative restrictions

  • Pandemics or public health emergencies

10. Acceptance of Risk

By participating in any service provided by Meru Himal, travellers acknowledge that:

  • Himalayan travel carries inherent risks

  • Absolute safety cannot be guaranteed

  • They voluntarily accept these risks

11. Limitation of Liability

Meru Himal’s liability is limited to:

  • The services explicitly agreed upon

  • The amount paid for such services

Meru Himal shall not be liable for indirect or consequential losses.

12. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

This disclaimer is governed by the laws of India. Any disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of courts located in Uttarakhand, India.
